Dispatches from the Word Mines
My peer reviews are in! I can't really discuss them right now, but you can trust that no news is good news. That said, I am getting closer to a contract, so I need to redouble my efforts to finish The Storyteller's Guide to Folklore. This will entail a change to my monthly offerings, at least for a while. More on that below.
In other news, there might be a brief disruption of service to my website as we migrate (yet again) to a new server. The server migration is scheduled for the night of August 3rd, which is why this newsletter is a few days early, and these disruptions might occur in the next week or so as we connect the domains to the new server space.
The Maiden, Mother, Crone Folklore of Charms workshop went really well, and I'll be delivering it again locally at our monthly Pagan potluck. If you're a local subscriber, you're most welcome to attend. Here's the info.
This Month on Social Media
Subscribers will have received the July Special Dispatch titled "Passion, Empathy, and Action," which is the short title of the paper I delivered in June at the International Society for Folk Narrative Research conference in Reykjavik. My new short video for July was titled "Folklore and Pop Culture: Reading the Books in Baldur's Gate III," and it was a fun, folkloristic look at one of my new favourite games.
As mentioned above, I'm hitting the pause button on both of these monthly offerings for the time being to conserve time for The Storyteller's Guide to Folklore. The monthly Folkbyte newsletter will continue, and I'll post announcements, videos, and Special Dispatch articles when I have something interesting to share (like a conference paper). I hope to pick up some of this work at a future date, but it's crunch time for SGF, and I really, really, really want to start the new year with a new fiction project.
